17-year-old male arrested Tuesday; victim released from hospital in good condition

UPDATE: One person is in custody in connection with the drive-by shooting at the Sulphur Springs skate park that occurred Sunday night, according to police. 

Officers wrapped up their investigation and obtained an arrest warrant for Justin Quintel Richards, 17. Richards turned himself in at the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office Monday afternoon on a charge of aggravated assault causing bodily injury. No bond had been set as of Tuesday evening, police said.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday May 3, Sulphur Springs Police received a call about possible gunshots at the Buford Park skate park. When officers arrived, they located a single victim with a single gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle by friends and was listed in stable condition, police said.

Officers received a description of a suspect vehicle, which fled the scene, and have identified a suspect in the case, they said. The investigation is still ongoing, with at least one more arrest expected, according to SSPD.
