NWS: Hopkins hot again for week-long heat streak

Hopkins continues to experience a heat streak, according to the National Weather Service. 

Thursday has a 10% chance of showers after about 5 p.m., with an otherwise mostly sunny and hot day, with a high near 101 degrees. Heat index values could be as high as 109, according to the NWS. Thursday night holds a 20% chance of showers before 8 p.m. Skies will be mostly clear, with a low around 80. 

A heat advisory has been issued for Hopkins County, as well as surrounding counties Rains, Hunt and Delta. Heat index values between 105 and are 110 expected, the NWS said. 

The NWS recommends to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, the NWS says.
