After a very long week, Hopkins County agricultural students have something to look forward to next week: the Northeast Texas Livestock Association ag mechanics and livestock show at the Hopkins County Civic Center.

The ag mechanics show is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 23 and will feature projects from all county schools. Some projects have already won blue ribbons or even a reserve champion title. It will be chance for students to show off to locals as well as a chance for locals to see just what their students are capable of.

Friday, Feb. 26 is the date for all livestock shows. According to NETLA’s social media, a change in minimum weights for all species has been made due to the extreme cold experienced this week. After an executive meeting, the weight minimum was lowered by 10%.

The weights, in pounds, are as follows: steers, 890; pigs, 202; goats, 52; southdown sheep, 81; and all other sheep, 90.
