Sale of Champions slated 1 p.m. Saturday

After a very long week, Hopkins County agricultural students have something to look forward to Thursday and Friday: the Northeast Texas Livestock Association livestock show at the Hopkins County Civic Center.

According to NETLA’s social media, a change in minimum weights for all species has been made due to the extreme cold experienced this week. After an executive meeting, the weight minimum was lowered by 10%.

The weights, in pounds, are as follows: steers, 890; pigs, 202; goats, 52; southdown sheep, 81; and all other sheep, 90.

The schedule for Friday is as follows:

• 6:30 a.m.: Broiler check-in and in place

• 7:30 a.m.: Broiler Show

• 8:30 a.m.: 10:30 a.m.: Swine weights due

• 11:30 a.m.: Swine show

• Noon: Steers in place

• 12:30 p.m.: Steer weights due

• 3 p.m.: Steer show

• Heifers after steers

Goats and lambs with be shown Thursday. There will not be a buyer’s luncheon on Thursday or a stew/chili on Saturday. The Sale of Champions will still be held 1 p.m. Saturday.

Students competed Tuesday in NETLA’s ag mechanics show, and results will be published as they become available.
