The May Northeast Texas Beef Improvement Organization’s (NETBIO) Pre-Conditioned Calf and Yearling Sale held Friday at the Sulphur Springs Livestock Commission was a huge success despite the rainy weather.

A total of 244 NETBIO producer/members shipped 5,828 head of cattle to sell at the sale, and those cattle sold for an average of $846.28 per head.

“It was an excellent sale in spite of the weather, and we had a lot of buyer interest in cattle being purchased for summer grazing and as replacement cattle,” said David Fowler, co-owner of the livestock commission and a NETBIO director. “The market was good on all classes and the cattle sold really well.”

“It was a very good offering of cattle and buyers recognized the excellent quality,” Fowler said. “The demand for all weights and kinds of cattle was good, and it was again evident that producers are doing a great job of pre-conditioning and getting their cattle ready for this sale.”

There was a total of 39 buyers, and 888 head of cattle were sold to buyers watching and bidding for cattle on the Internet.

The next sale will be held at the Sulphur Springs Livestock Commission on Friday, July 16. Pre-conditioned calves must have been weaned at least 60 days prior to the sale and should be started on a supplement program.

For those planning ahead, the July sale will be followed by a sale on Fri day, September 17.

The NETBIO Pre-Conditioned Stocker and Feeder Calf Sale is the marketing arm for members of the organization, giving producers a market to sell their pre-conditioned cattle in load lot quantities. NETBIO holds eight pre-conditioned cattle sales per year.
