Neal Adams takes grand champion in barbecue

The team also took home third place in the brisket category and second in ribs. Their prize package included a trophy, a hunt from Black Sheep Outdoors, a handmade picnic table and $500.

  • Reserve champion was awarded to Kenneth Dean and his crew with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office Saturday at the barbecue cook-off hosted by Operation Victor Echo Tango. The team also took home the People’s Choice Award for best barbecue overall. Their prize package included a trophy, grill and $250.

Operation Victor Echo Tango held their fourth annual barbecue cook-off Saturday at Heritage Park in Sulphur Springs.

In the brisket category were: first place — Shawn Sims with Twisted S BBQ, second place — Todd Daniel with T. O. Double D BBQ and third place — Neal Adams with Tully Insurance.

In the ribs category were: first place — Billy Duffer with Mo Duffs, second place — Neal Adams with Tully Insurance and third place — Danny Fort with Sweet Bo’s BBQ.

In the pulled pork category were: first place — Richard Allen with KG Crew, second place — Chuck White with White-smoke and third place — Logan Vaughan with Tableleaf.

The People’s Choice Award went to Kenneth Dean with the Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Office.

Cook’s Choice was awarded to Art Carter with Bare Minimum. Best barbecue sauce went to Jeff Sanderson with Hopkins County EMS, and best dessert and best beans were awarded to Logan Vaughan with Tableleaf.

Reserve Grand Champion was given to Kenneth Dean with the HCSO.

Grand Champion went to Neal Adams with Tully Insurance.
