Body

Students don’t fully understand what it takes to run a school.

We see the tip of the iceberg. We have it easy! We get to attend school with no worries other than what’s for lunch and how much math we will have to do. The best part of school is that we have an entire network of people dedicated to creating the best learning environment possible for all of us. The school board is the root of all of our success, for they provide everything we need. Staff and students alike are beyond privileged to have such a body behind us, especially at Como-Pickton.

School boards everywhere are dedicated to making beneficial decisions for students and employees. They listen to various ideas presented by community members, students, faculty, and each other to aid in the success of the school. The school board is one of the most beneficial branches of a school. They work the behind the scenes part of schools. They get slim recognition, but now, in this month it’s time the members get what they deserve.

School board members are unpaid. They are volunteers who care enough about the school to run for office and advocate for the students. Once a month the school board comes together for a meeting, and at Como-Pickton they recognize a student from all levels (elementary- high school) to be student of the month. It’s nice that they take the time to recognize students during their meetings. To me, it’s nice to know that even in a small community, there are several people interested in making a difference.

Here at Como-Pickton, our school board is made up of seven men and women who are passionate about the success of our school. These are well known names in our community and many times you will find them at games or even at Joe Bob’s. I would like to recognize our outstanding school board members: DJ Carr, President, Shiloh Childress, Vice President, Brittney Smith, Secretary, Cole Boseman, Clif Carpenter, Keith Monk and Jim Murray.

I would like to say a big thank you to each one of you for all of the hours spent making our school the best school in Hopkins County!
