Monster trucks are back for ‘big air’

Pit Party planned before the show

Sulphur Springs Monster Truck Wars are back for 2020 with a line-up of returning and new “Giant Superstars” at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center arena in December.

The exhibition will include world-famous Outlaw, three-time world champion Bear Foot, El Oso Loco from Mexico City and The Sheriff from Tombstone, Ariz. These trucks weigh as much as 12,000 pounds and up to 2,000 horsepower.

Spectators can expect head-to-head grudge matches and airborne, fast-track races. Quad Wars will pit team against team for a cash purse, as well.

A family-friendly event, kids ages 3-9 years can participate in Kids Powerwheel Races as part of the show (Parents will have to provide the Powerwheels.) and will have a chance to purchase rides on monster truck Sergeant Smash. Before each show, children are invited to the Kid’s Fun Zone at a meet-and-greet Pit Party, where they can meet the drivers, see the trucks and race tracks up-close, and enjoy a bounce house.

Two shows are planned for Saturday, Dec. 12 at 1-3 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Civic Center arena. Gates open at 11 a.m. for the matinee and 5 p.m. for the evening show. Pit Party times are 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Both shows will be followed up with a change to get drivers’ autographs.

Early discount tickets are available for the first 300 tickets purchased online at monstertrucks.fun. General admission is $12 for adults and children, plus $5 for the Pit Party, and VIP reserved seating are $25 each with free Pit Party tickets. Children 2 years old and younger are free. Ticket prices will be slightly higher at the gate.

Monster Truck Wars emphasize that health and safety guidelines will be followed at all times, including maintaining social distancing and sitting only with family members. The organization also encourages the wearing of face masks.
