Miller Grove hosted the fourth annual UIL invitational Wednesday for more than 500 students, according to Special Programs Coordinator Emma Hudson.

Comprised of 23 schools, the invitational ran from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and hosted debate, prose and other UIL activities.

Miller Grove student Jolee Fox placed fifth of 29 participants in debate, of which the topic was gentrification. Fox competed at state UIL in debate in 2019. Miller Grove student Jocelyn Helterbrand placed fifth of 22 participants in prose.

Overall, Hudson said, Miller Grove did not place as a school in the tournament, as hosting the tournament is more a practice run for regional and state competitions.

Hudson said the UIL invitational was one of the school’s “busiest days of the year” along with track and cross country invitationals.
