Plans finalized so dirt work can begin

Miller Grove ISD has secured a contractor for their multipurpose building, per a decision at a special meeting on the evening of Aug. 24.

After convening at 6 p.m., the board unanimously selected JPJ Construction of Winnsboro. Proprietor John David Jackson said he was excited to work with the group, as he had ties with Hopkins County given that his wife is from Como.

The bid from JPJ was the lowest of the three bids the school received, coming in at $1.7 million, the board stated.

Superintendent Steve Johnson then shared architectural drawings with Jackson, which showed the layout of the multipurpose building. According to the renderings, the building will house two basketball courts, a partitioned stage, two dressing room areas, five classrooms and a concession stand.

Jackson told the board JPJ intended to begin dirt work “right away,” and with a tight timeline, the school could expect to hold 2020-2021 school year graduation in the building.

“Everyone’s really excited about this project,” board member Ray Sparks told the News-Telegram. “The board, the staff, the community, everyone.”
