Volunteers needed to fill in

Sulphur Springs Senior Citizens Center Executive Director Karon Weatherman is looking for cooks to volunteer with the Meal A Day program she runs through the center.

“I have two cooks out with surgeries, …and they both will hopefully be back soon,” Weatherman said. “It is hard on the cooks when just one person is out of pocket. I have to call other cooks in to fill in for them or go in there myself. Some of them are already cooking two days a week.”

The program feeds senior citizen shut-ins by delivering lunches Monday-Friday for $2 per meal. They currently feed around 120 seniors in Hopkins County.

Meal A Day needs:

• Monday: three more needed

• Tuesday: one more needed

• Wednesday: three more needed

• Thursday: one more needed

• Friday: two more needed

Cooks arrive at 7 a.m. and are usually done no later than 11 a.m., Weatherman said.

Volunteers are also welcome to stay after and prepare food for the next day, including desserts.

The Senior Citizens Center is at 150 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Weatherman can be reached at 903-885-8663 or meal aday@yahoo.com.
