Sustaire, along with his wife Amy and their children, owns and operates Sustaire Farms, a third-generation, 600-head dairy operation in Northeast Texas. The Sustaires also have a small herd of beef cattle and serve as a poultry provider for Pilgrim’s Pride. Sustaire has served on the Dairy Farmers of America, the Texas Beef Council, the Beef Promotion and Research Board of Texas, the Texas Association of Dairyman, the Texas Association of Cooperative Council and Hopkins/Rains County Farm Bureau.

“Mark’s background in the dairy business will bring a much-needed perspective from that industry to the Cattlemen’s Beef Board,” said Hugh Sanburg, 2021 CBB chair. “He’s a tremendous advocate for the Beef Checkoff, and he actively shares information with other producers about how their dollars are working hard to promote beef. We’re extremely pleased to have Mark join us, and we look forward to his insights about the beef and dairy industries as we develop plans and initiatives that drive beef demand.”

The CBB consists of 101 members, including domestic beef, dairy and veal producers, as well as importers of beef and beef products. Producer representation on the Board is based on cattle inventory in each state while importer representation is based on a conversion of the volume of imports into live animal equivalencies. Each Beef Board member is appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture from nominations submitted by certified nominating organizations that represent beef and dairy producers in each state or region. Importer appointments are chosen from nominations by importer associations.
