Stanley lands bronze at Sulphur Springs

Over three East Texas Junior Golf Tournament events, local young golfers earned eight medals, including four golds, at courses in Daingerfield, Mount Pleasant and Sulphur Springs with Mariam Tran taking home two gold medals.

At Daingerfield Thursday, June 18, Isaac Stanley of Sulphur Springs posted his second victory of the season in the junior high boys category, and fellow native Mykylie Meador notched a win over Cooper’s Amie Holt in the high school girls category.

High school golfer Mariam Tran picked up her first win at Mount Pleasant Monday with a score of 54 (+2). Junior high golfer Tatum Tran of Sulphur Springs finished second behind Jacob Baker of Mount Pleasant with a score of 76. Stanley finished fourth, and Sulphur Springs’ Clark Cooper in the 11 and under category tied for third with two others.

Here in Sulphur Springs at the county club Thursday, Mariam Tran shared her victory with Katie Hart, each scoring a 74. Tatum Tran landed a silver medal, while Stanley earned a bronze. Meador finished fifth, and Cooper finished seventh.

In the junior high boy standings, Stanley maintained a narrow lead with 108 total points to Baker’s 100. Tatum Tran sits in fourth overall.

For the high school girls, Meador is third, having medaled three times, and Mariam Tran is now fifth. She has won both the events she’s entered and has the lowest scoring average currently.

For 11 and under, Cooper currently sits at eighth.
