A 29-year-old Hot Springs man remains in custody after being arrested twice in less than 24 hours.

On Tuesday, Adam Blake Smith was arrested during a DPS traffic stop at 4:03 p.m. on Interstate 30 east at mile marker 134 on a Bowie County warrant for driving while intoxicated. Bond was set at $1,000, and he was released Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Smith was arrested again at 1:44 p.m. at Lowe’s on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and resisting arrest, search or transport.

Officers were dispatched to the location in reference to a motor vehicle theft that allegedly occurred at a convenience store in the 900 block of Gilmer Street. Smith reportedly parked the vehicle, a gold Cadillac STS, at Lowe’s and walked through the store and into another business.

Smith reportedly attempted to strike an officer with his closed fist and was taken to the ground, where he continued to resist arrest.

Smith’s bond on the new charges was set at $25,000, and he remained in jail as of press time Thursday.
