Front window broken, outside toys stolen

Body

When Letita Conliffe pulled up to the Lil 4’s Clubhouse Friday morning, she had an unfortunate surprise waiting for her.

Someone had used a plant holder on the porch to break the building’s front plate-glass window during the night, leaving a small human-sized hole and shards of glass behind.

“When I saw that window, I said, ‘What can happen next?’,” Conliffe said.

The person or persons then entered the building through the broken window and created more problems inside.

“The only thing they took inside was a jar of change the kids were saving,” Conliffe said, “and they ransacked the place.”

The subjects also took all the toys from the outdoor playground.

“This wasn’t a time for this window to be broken,” Conliffe said. “The devil is very much busy. But we’re going to continue to keep the faith in the good Lord.”

Conliffe founded the Lil 4’s approximately four years ago to serve as a safe haven for inner-city kids who need a safe place to sleep, a meal or just someone who loves them. She currently serves more than 60 children from infants to teens.

Anyone interested in helping out with the cost of replacing the front window can send a donation to Jamie McGraw Young through Venmo at JamieY_Disney or via PayPal at jamienae77@hotmail.com. Please be sure to choose the “Friends and Family” option to avoid transaction fees, and put “Lil4s” in the info/memo space. The cost of replacing the glass is expected to be more than $300. Any funds received beyond that will be donated to the Lil 4’s Club.

Donations of new or used toys would also be very much appreciated. Those can be dropped off at 200 Fuller St. in Sulphur Springs 10 a.m-6 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Anyone with information regarding the burglary is asked to call the Sulphur Springs Police Department at 903-885-7602.
