Maxwell: City a hub for regional tourism

Body

The Red River Leadership Institute was created to bring together up-and-comers from across the ArkLaTexOma area to learn about principles that make cities great. It’s no wonder that the session will wrap this weekend in Sulphur Springs, with a session titled “Downtown Development.”

“Vibrant cities depend on vibrant downtowns. One of America’s foremost experts on architecture and urban design will guide you through what it takes to build a downtown that can power a dynamic city and region,” the institute tells its participants about what they can learn about Sulphur Springs.

“It’s a great honor to be viewed as a regional success,” city manager Marc Maxwell told the News-Telegram. “I used to go into a restaurant in town and I’d know everybody. Now I don’t, and I think that’s a mark of how we’ve become a hub for tourism, regionally.”

According to the Red River Leadership Institute, the group will discuss, “leadership ethics and how it is the most important subject in the study and practice of leadership.”

“Leaders are judged not only in terms of decisiveness and efficiency, but more importantly on the basis of values and moral reasoning,” the institute states.

Participants from Texarkana, Atlanta, Little Rock, Hope, Broken Bow, Hocha and more will descend upon the square Friday to learn about Sulphur Springs history and legacy.
