Teer, Cummings: Governor's order above previous county declaration

Body

An order via the governor declaring a disaster state in all counties of Texas means that all civil cases making their way through the justice of the peace courts have been suspended until June 1, according to a release from Hopkins County justices BJ Teer and Brad Cummings.

The order, dated April 1, states that in all courts in Texas, any civil case shall be delayed from March 13 to June 1, 2020, with the exception of deadlines for perfecting an appeal, appellate appeals or requests for relief, the release said.

This includes evictions, civil debt claims and small claims. All cases will be re-set and all parties will be notified by mail, according to Teer and Cummings.
