Body

Although early in 2020 Hopkins County excelled regionally in participating in the 2020 census, as the census period is drawing to a close participation remains at approximately 56%, according to the June 8 weekly census report, while participation in the 2010 census was much higher.

Of Bowie, Camp, Delta, Franklin, Wood, Lamar and Red River counties, Hopkins Census Group, Hopkins remains the highest at 56% participation as of June 8, census reports show. Bowie is the next highest at 55.3%, the report shows.

However, in 2010, Hopkins achieved a 66% census report, with the next highest being Wood County at 60.2%.

According to Hopkins County Judge Robert Newsom, participation by citizens in the census is important for the county to receive grants, such as FEMA, schools, roads and more.

The better we respond, the more our citizens will receive federal assistance in our times of need over the next ten years,” Newsom said. “Let’s lead Northeast Texas.”
