History By Foot, a historic walking tour led by Mayor John Sellers will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 22. The tour will start at City Hall and continue down Connally Street towards Buford Park. The tour usually lasts around an hour or an hour and a half.
Sellers has been conducting these historic tours of Sulphur Springs since 2011, with this year's walk being the twentieth semi-annual tour.
"I picked Connally Street this year due to the recent construction of new sidewalks and the ongoing construction of residential homes at Connally Corner," Sellers shared.
Sellers shared that he enjoys sharing the history related to the residences, street names and other notable historic buildings and how they relate to events in the past and even events today.
"I'd like to plan some nighttime walks where we can pass by some local restaurants and maybe stop in to have a bite to eat." Sellers said. "Spots are filling up fast. I believe the tour is already half booked."
Anyone wishing to sign up can contact the Hopkins County Genealogical Society by calling 903-885-8523 or email Sellers at sellersj1@verizon.net.
The registration fee for the event is $10.
