Where can you watch antique and hot rod garden tractor pulls; eat delicious chili, brisket and beans; check out amazing FFA shop projects; and help children at the same time?

The 12th annual Help-a-Child Benefit set for Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital and the Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center.

County Commissioner Wade Bartley started the event in 2007, and it’s grown bigger each year. Last year, the event raised more than $70,000. Scottish Rite Hospital and the Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center have been the recipients since the very beginning of the event.

This year, the Lone Star Garden Tractor Pullers will kick things off at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Civic Center Arena. Tractor events are free to attend.

Chili, brisket and Dutch oven peach cobbler will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. — all-you-can-eat for $10 per person.

The winners of the Ira Black FFA Ag Mechanics Show and the chili and brisket cook-offs will be announced at noon, followed by the project show auction.

At 1 p.m., reminisce about the way things used to be with the Lake County Antique Tractor Pull in the Civic Center Arena.

Don’t forget to buy raffle tickets for a chance to win a Can-Am 570 4-wheeler.
