Hopkins County United Way held its first report meeting Tuesday morning. This year’s campaign theme is “Be a Hero — Giving Hope, Empowerment, Renewal and Opportunity.”

The campaign goal is $165,000 to be divided among 21 organizations working within the community to provide services to children, teens and adults in need in Hopkins County.

The list of organizations includes: Boy Scouts of America Circle Ten Council, Bright Star Baseball, CANHelp, East Texas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Heritage Christian Counseling Center, Hopkins County 4-H, Hopkins County Christian Alliance on behalf of Community Cupboard, Hopkins County Christian Alliance on behalf of Empty Stocking, Hopkins County Community Chest, Jehovah Jireh Food Pantry, Lake Country CASA, Lakes Regional Community Center on behalf of Children’s Center of ECI, Meal-A-Day of Sulphur Springs, Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center, SAFE-T (Shelter Agencies for Families in East Texas), Shadow Ranch Therapeutic Riding Center, Sulphur Springs Symphony League, Teen Court, The Dinner Bell and Winnsboro Community Resource Center.

The board reports they have received $35,721.80 in pledges, 21% of their goal of $165,000. Nineteen local businesses have met or exceeded their posted goals.

Ongoing campaign percent totals will be posted on the digital billboards near Chili’s and across Gilmer Street from Toliver Ford. Percent totals will also be shown on the traditional United Way campaign thermometer near the fire station on Gilmer Street, across from CVS.
