Haus of Sabo, a full-service interior design and retail shop, is bringing vintage- modern art deco to Sulphur Springs. From counter tops to tiles, furniture to dining ware, Cody Rackley and Ethan Sabo will offer a line of hand-selected interior- design products and furnishings.

Haus of Sabo sources products from select vendors around the world such as Africa or India, but the shop mainly incorporates textile designs from the United States — California, North Carolina, and here at home, in Austin. Rackley and Sabo will also provide selections from their very own custom upholstery line, “William and Edward.” They will be introducing their home-line company this Friday during their grand opening from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at their shop downtown. The line will include custom sofas, chairs, draperies and rugs — including custom cow-hide rugs sourced from Austin — of course.

In addition, they will be selling a full-scale line of craftsman or manufactured products from vendors like Jonathan Adler, DV Kap and Semihandmade — all of which are either handmade or luxury items.

“We have some handmade items, like our African glass beads, which are fair-trade sourced from Africa,” said Rackley, Creator of Haus of Sabo.

“We’re trying to keep some organic things that are craftsmen, but manufactured things as well — everything from vases to dining ware, to pillows, linens, door knobs and cups,” he added, “this doesn’t limit what we can actually source, so we can sit down and design things and that’s where we can add our furniture, etc.,” said Rackley.

Rackley and Sabo wanted to bring high-end design elements to the residents of Sulphur Springs, and also a service that would help first-time buyers understand what they are looking for and how to incorporate it into their homes via a guided interior-design service.

Haus of Sabo takes a vintage- modern approach to things. According to Rackley, they are a genre-aesthetic, label-free and unapologetic interior-design studio. Local artists, Bobbie Dyer and Caroline McClay will have their art for sale at Haus of Sabo, adding a contemporary touch of art and history to their sourced products.

“We love to take the past and present — in the sense of getting a historic home — and adding modern furniture, and just making it very classic,” said Rackley.

Although they want their customers to have a “classic” home, they don’t want their designs to “expire” after five years.

“We love to do trends, but we love to provide a more classic touch on things, so it does stay true to the person,” he added.

Rackley started Haus of Sabo in 2016 after working in the design industry for 10 years. He graduated with his Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2018, committing to interior design as his livelihood. After living in Dallas and Austin, Rackley decided to move back to his home town to open up his shop, catering to his customers where he started.

“We gained 10 orders and four leads after our soft-opening on Friday,” said Rackley.

Haus of Sabo opened its doors for the first time to members of the community on Friday, Sept. 30 for an exclusive sneak peek at their modern store layout for a 1950’s-esque, Madmen- themed party. Guests arrived donned in retro garb with sleek hairstyles and accessories to match.

Haus of Sabo will hold its grand opening this Friday, Oct. 7 at 9 a.m. alongside a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce.

Rackley and Sabo encourage all novice and interior- design gurus/shoppers to peruse their unique selection of textures and styles at their grand-opening party from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be open to the public, featuring guest vendors in the Courtyard – The Legendairy Heifer, Ladona, a cantina style foodtruck and Beauty Grace lifestyle shop. Doors will stay open until 8 p.m. on Friday for those interested in getting started on their next interior- design project. Haus of Sabo is located at 214 Main Street in downtown Sulphur Springs.
