Lena Day

Lena Day Garden Club met on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the “Country Party Barn” of Barbara Stewart. Members enjoyed an array of sweet treats and a hot chocolate bar, which was great for a cool rainy day.

The business meeting was called to order by President Ruthmary Hall. Mary Groner called the roll, read the minutes from last meeting and gave the Treasurer’s report, which was approved as read.

The Christmas party was at the top of the agenda. The club will meet at Patsy Johnson’s home for Christmas luncheon. Also, the club will be making their annual Christmas donation to Sulphur Springs Senior Citizens Center this year.

Stewart gave an informative program on fall flowers and plants and 10 mistakes gardeners make: watering and fertilizing too much, trying to grow non-native plants, overcrowding plants, planting trees too close to structure, failure to prepare soil for planting, not knowing your planting zone, failure to mulch to control weeds and moisture, placing plants in the wrong location to take advantage of sun or shade, and killing all bugs, as some are beneficial.

Members attending were: Pat Burnett, Regena Filak, Groner, Hall, Margie Dale Hathcox, Valinda Hathcox, Freddie Hughes, Pat Johnson, Barb Julian, Charlotte McDowell, Charlotte Henderson, Susie Roth, Liz Steinsiek and Stewart.
