March date expected for event

After a Lights of Life Gala board meeting this morning, the Gala Unmasked event scheduled Feb. 20 has been postponed.

In a Facebook post, the Hopkins County Health Care Association urged residents to "focus these next few days on circling the wagons and helping our community get back on its feet."

“It was not an easy decision,” Foundation director Shannon Barker said in a video with Chad’s Media. “But this is not the end of the story. As we have been over this entire year and over the last couple weeks, we’re going to be flexible.”

A March date is expected for the event.

“This has been an incredibly hard for many of you, many of us with no power, no internet, busted pipes, businesses shut down,” Barker said. “We are very mindful of that. We want to make sure that when we come to you and talking about things for the hospital, it’s appropriate and timely for you and us.”

Chad Kopal joined Barker in the video and said the leadership of the Gala felt it “was the best decision for Hopkins County at the time.”

“Stay safe and warm, everybody!” Barker said.

The Lights of Life Gala Unmasked was planned to be a virtual telethon to be broadcast over various social media and internet channels. The silent auction at the Civic Center, which supposed to be held Wednesday, was also canceled. Items that will be available for auction can be viewed at galaunmasked.givesmart.com.
