The News-Telegram is working on honoring Hopkins County principals through this month.

Amanda Fenton has worked in education for over two decades, and thirteen of those years have been at Sulphur Springs ISD.

“During my 21 years of education experience, I have taught kindergarten, first grade, third grade as well as a literacy support teacher and an Academic Specialist,” Fenton said.

Now in her third year as principal of Bowie Primary School, Fenton said that their focus is “What do you want to BE at Bowie?”

“We are hoping to instill in our students the importance of social-emotional learning skills that require them to be kind, be thoughtful, be hopeful, be helpful and so on,” Fenton said. “Social-emotional support is crucial for our students to learn about how they can recognize their feelings and behaviors so that they can use appropriate strategies to make it through any situation. Our students are setting not only academic goals for themselves in reading and math each nine weeks, but they are also setting goals for their behaviors.”

Fenton said she is proud of Bowie students and staff for their “for their perseverance, determination, and loyalty to give their best every single day.”

Fenton and her husband have two children, who both attend SSISD.

“Mrs. Fenton is an amazing principal and we are very lucky to have her as the principal of Bowie Primary,” said SSISD superintendent Michael Lamb. “She leads an amazing staff and they do a great job loving on kids.”
