East Texas Junior tour nearing end

MOUNT PLEASANT — The East Texas Junior Golf Tour was at Mount Pleasant Monday, and with only two regular season tournaments left, all the golfers were scrambling to get into the top 20 to get invited to the 36-Hole Tour Championship on next week. In the Tour Championship, the golfers get to ride golf carts and use caddies for advice and help.

Monday was a beautiful day, overcast with a bit of wind and nice temperatures. The golfers have played the course now enough know the best ways to score within their game.

The High School Boys division saw Matthew Peterson of Mount Pleasant post 4 under par 68 to pick up a victory.

In the High School Girls division, Katie Hart of Mount Pleasant carded an 87 to post a win.

In the Junior High Boys division, Isaac Stanley of Sulphur Springs rallied to a 113 to finish first.

In the 11 & Under division, Alex Hammonds of Atlanta had a 37 to win by seven strokes. Players from Sulphur Springs in this division were Clark Cooper, who placed ninth with a 56, followed by Sarah Washburn with a 68.

The ETJGT will head to Pittsburg Thursday to play at Princedale Country Club for the final round before the Tour Championship next week.

The 36-Hole Tour Championship is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, July 6 and 7.
