Parents of children entering kindergarten in the 2020-2021 school year who are interested in the Sulphur Springs ISD Two-Way Dual Language program are asked to attend an information meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 16 in the board room at the SSISD Administration Building on Connally Street. This meeting will cover the program expectations, model, language acquisition, assessment, identification and notification process.

The Two-Way Dual Language Model is an enrichment program that challenges students and is designed to teach children a second language in a natural way through subject content instruction and everyday classroom conversation. Students develop oral and cognitive academic language in both English and Spanish, while mastering grade-level knowledge and skills in all content areas.

The Kindergarten Dual Language Two-Way application window for incoming Kindergarten students wanting to learning English and Spanish has been extended due to COVID-19 shutdowns.

In addition, parents can complete Kindergarten registration face-to-face by appointment or online at http://www.ssisd.net/page/New%20Student%20Registration. District officials are scheduling appointments for parents to meet face-to-face to start and/or finish registration, submit student enrollment documents and conduct student screenings.

New-to-District Kindergarten through thirdgrade students will register with Patty Garcia, administrative assistant to the assistant superintendent of elementary education by emailing kindergarten_newstudentregistration@ssisd.net.

Parents will need to submit the following information for registration:

• Proof of residency within the district. One of the following must be presented in the name of the parent or guardian — current utility bill, rent/lease agreement or mortgage statement;

• Photo ID of parent or guardian;

• Student’s official birth certificate;

• Student’s Social Security card;

• Student’s up-to-date immunization record;

• Note from a medical practitioner concerning student’s allergy and/or health needs; and

• Custodial documents or court order, if applicable.

Current Pre-K and Head Start students are not required to participate in Online Round-up but will complete Returning Student Registration with their Skyward Family Access account.
