A Hopkins County Grand Jury returned 55 true bills of indictment naming long-time Sulphur Springs physician Don M. O’Neal. In 33 indictments, O’Neal was accused of third-degree felony fraud. The charges allege the physician wrote prescriptions for controlled substances such as hydrocodone, Darvocet, Atavan and other drugs, using the signature and registration number of another physician. The doctor was also named in another 22 felony indictments alleging delivery of controlled substances to patients in his office.

When you wish upon a star, your dreams can come true. For Hopkins County 5-year-old Emery Brown, her wish to go to Disney World was granted and was to take place that summer because of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. At Pizza Inn, Emery believed she was going to be meeting up with some family members for pizza. Instead, she got the surprise of a lifetime as two Make-A-Wish foundation representatives were waiting at the restaurant with balloons, cake, presents and a week-long vacation to Disney World.

Hopkins County Sheriff Lewis Tatum and two of his deputies participated in a ceremony to honor fallen law enforcement officers held in Greenville. The ceremony included a reading of the law enforcement code of ethics, a 21-gun salute and playing of “Taps,” along with presentations of a memorial wreath and a symbolic, riderless horse.
