10 years ago The Sulphur Springs

The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats basketball team defeated Hallsville by a final score of 35-30 in the opening round of the playoffs. The Lady Cats snapped a drought of over eight years, by making the playoffs for the first time since 2003. Sulphur Springs, who trailed by eight points at one point, were led by Reagan Humphrey who had 11 points and 10 rebounds to help her team advance to the Area round.

Sulphur Springs High School students rehearsed a scene from the one act play, “The Mad Woman of Chaillot,” in preparation for their upcoming UIL competition. “The Mad Woman of Chaillot,” written in 1943, deals with political entities trying to dig up Paris in order to extract oil. One woman, Countess Aurelia, fights back in order to stop the beloved city from being destroyed.

The Saltillo Lady Lions basketball team wrapped up their regular season with a 58- 30 win over Sulphur Bluff, giving them a 28-7 record on the season and a perfect 10-0 in district play. Anna Reeder was the leading scorer in the Lady Lions win, finishing with 27 points. Chandler Bain and Jocelyn Ochoa also finished in double-digits, scoring 11 points each.
