Two Sulphur Springs men were arrested at a residence in the 200 block of Brewer Street at 2:43 p.m. Sunday on charges of possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance.

Officers were dispatched to the residence in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, they reportedly made contact two men walking away from the disturbance. While speaking with the complainant, officers reportedly observed the two men remove a backpack and place it a short distance away from them. Officers asked the two men about the backpack and were allegedly told marijuana was inside the backpack.

During a probable cause search, officers located the suspected marijuana, as well as a clear plastic baggie containing suspected methamphetamine. Both subjects denied ownership of the contraband and were taken into custody.

Cameron Clay Fountain, 37, and Jose Ismael Cuevas, 29, were both charged with possession. The arrest location was less than 1,000 feet from Travis Primary School, so the charges were enhanced. Each man’s bond was set at $5,000, and both remained in jail Tuesday.
