Bellview still under construction
The September city manager’s report, given by City Manager Marc Maxwell before the regular September session of the city council Tuesday, has updates on the Gray’s Building and Senior Citizen Center as well as a general overview of the Bellview and McCann Streets.
GRAY’S BUILDING & PACIFIC PARK
The city began dirt work for the Gray’s building on Aug. 5, which Maxwell called “kind of a milestone.” By Sept. 1, the city had finished the pad site for the Gray’s building. The soil for the site came from a drainage way at Spring Street behind the Price’s Pawn Shop, according to Maxwell.
“This gives us the added benefit of increased stormwater retention which will further reduce the threat of flooding on Oak Avenue,” Maxwell said.
Later in the city council session, the council members approved bids for contractors for the Gray’s building.
SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER
The city has selected Rees Architectural Firm to design the Senior Activity Center.
“REES is working closely with the design committee to design a building that is both functional and pleasing to the eye,” Maxwell noted.
Maxwell estimated the design stage would conclude within the month.
The city is also doing dirt work on the senior center site using soil for the drainage thoroughfare from Spring Street, Maxwell said. The building pad is completed, and “We will have greatly reduced the threat of flooding on Oak Avenue, and we will have significantly raised the elevation of the site as well,” Maxwell reported.
BELLVIEW STREET
ATMOS has not yet finished replacing their gas line on Bellview Street, and Maxwell stated he is “not comfortable estimating a completion date for ATMOS.”
Maxwell said he “expected them to be done by now, but it hasn’t worked out that way.”
MCCANN STREET
The capital construction division has installed a new sewer main on McCann Street and expects it to be completed the week of Aug. 7, Maxwell said. Construction of the water main will begin after that.
