A 46-year-old Dike woman was arrested at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday following a single vehicle accident on Interstate 30 west on a charge of driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content above .15, which is a Class A misdemeanor.

DPS Trooper Gillentine reportedly responded to the scene of the accident at mile marker 126 to assist SSPD Officer Miller. Miller reportedly advised Gillentine that he believed the woman to be intoxicated.

Upon arrival, Gillentine allegedly observed several emergency vehicles present and a silver Ford sedan crashed in the median between the westbound lanes of I-30 and the westbound service road. The woman was reportedly leaning against the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Gillentine reportedly observed several liquid containers on the roof of the vehicle, including a pint of brandy that was almost empty. The woman reportedly told Gillentine that she was the driver and that she was alone when she crashed. Gillentine reportedly asked the woman how much she had to drink “after she crashed,” and she reportedly said she had nothing to drink.

She reportedly had bloodshot eyes, extremely slurred speech and difficulty maintaining balance while walking. She reportedly told the trooper she was not sick or injured, had no illnesses or injuries that would affect her eyes or balance.

Gillentine reportedly observed the woman had a bloody lip and asked her if the injury occurred during the crash. She reportedly told the trooper it had not.

Gillentine then reportedly asked the woman to submit to standard field sobriety tests, which she allegedly refused. She was taken into custody at that point.

At the jail, she reportedly told Gillentine she would provide a breath or blood sample but she did not want to go to the hospital.

During the observation period in the Intoxilyzer room, she was reportedly asked how the crash happened.

She allegedly told Gillentine she was going to pick up her son, and that she was “just driving” when she hit the shoulder. She also reportedly advised she slept about seven hours the previous night and ate fish and hush puppies at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The observation period reportedly ended at 5:57 p.m. when she provided the first breath sample. The report allegedly showed a blood alcohol content of .19.

Bond was set at $2,000, and the woman remained in custody Thursday, according to arrest and jail reports.
