Region 8 Education Service Center announced Thursday Como-Pickton CISD Superintendent Dr. Greg Bower has received their recognition as the region's Superintendent of the Year.

"Over the years, the Texas Association of School Boards Superintendent of the Year award program has honored outstanding Texas administrators for achievement and excellence in public school administration," Region 8 ECS said in a statement. "Candidates are chosen for their strong leadership skills, dedication to improving the quality of education in their school districts, commitment to public support and involvement in education, and ability to build good employee relations among teachers and staff members."

Bower was nominated by the CPCISD school board in March for the award.

“We’re proud of him as our superintendent,” Carr said at the meeting.

“You [the board] gave me this job, giving me a chance several years ago,” Bower said at the meeting. “I told you that I just wanted to do a good job. I’m appreciative.”

Bower will represent Region 8, which consists of 46 school districts, at the 2020 Superintendent of the Year state competition. Finalists will be chosen Aug. 28-29 with the winner to be announced in October.
