CUMBY — Students at Cumby ISD got to meet Dallas Cowboys mascot Rowdy while learning about bullying during a pep rally Wednesday.

All students learned from Rowdy how to recognize bullying behavior such as sarcasm, eye-rolling, spitting, hitting, kicking and name-calling. Students learned that if they encounter bullying, they should notify a teacher, parent or trusted adult immediately.

During 2019, Cumby’s male high school student athletes have been participating in Coaching Boys Into Men (CBIM), from Futures Without Violence, an evidence-based prevention program that trains and motivates high school coaches to teach their young male athletes healthy relationship skills, according to a release from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Under the leadership of Athletic Director Tom Dracos and their coaches, the young men of Cumby High said no to domestic violence and bullying and were honored at the end of the program for their participation in the program.

“The athletes have shown improved attendance, improved behavior and an improved overall culture of community service,” the release said.
