Endsley: 'We're just trying to make it safe for all citizens of Hopkins County'

A discussion among Hopkins County residents has begun after a local volunteer fire department received a funding cut after self-dispatching, an act that breaches contract.

“The Hopkins County Sheriff Office dispatch has an approved protocol that provides a safe and efficient response to the many and various emergency Fire and EMS situations that occur daily in our county,” said Hopkins County Judge Robert Newsom. “All we are asking is that the protocol be followed by all police, fire and VFD individuals and agencies for the safety of our citizens and public servants.”

Hopkins County Fire Chief Andy Endsley said the protocols that are in place were voted on, and the contracts were signed by VFD chiefs.

"This is something that wasn't new to them, it was already in place and they agreed to that," Endsley said. "We're just trying to make it safe for all citizens of Hopkins County."
