Hopkins County
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension prides itself in making a positive impact on the lives of Texans, and in Hopkins County, volunteers provide an important role in helping Extension staff reach literally thousands of individuals each year. The Hopkins County Extension service recognizes committee members, master volunteers, episodic volunteers and stake holders by offering an end-of-year banquet in their honor.
Recently, three Hopkins County Master Wellness Volunteers were recognized for completing the certification requirements and were awarded certificates and official name badges. Patsy Neal, Pat Connally and Marjean Allen gave back over 400 combined volunteer hours in 2019.
An additional seven Master Wellness Volunteers were also recognized with certificates indicating their volunteer hours.
Overall, these 10 volunteers contributed 680.75 hours in the first 10 months, reaching nearly 7,900 individuals through health fairs, educational programs and series, special events, office assistance and more.
The highlight of the evening was the recognition of the 2019 Outstanding Extension Support of the Year. Bob Suson was named as the honoree based on his untiring support of Extension the overall program. Hopkins County Master Gardeners and Kids’ Camp gardening sessions were his two crowning achievements.
Justice of the Peace Brad Cummings and Constable Norman Colyer provided musical entertainment. Extension agents Johanna Hicks and Mario Villarino provided a brief summary of programs impacts in the areas of family and community health, agriculture and natural resources, and 4-H. Copies of the impact summaries are available at the Extension Office.
