County averages $133.3 million in employment for Q1 2020

AUSTIN—Texas Workforce Commission earlier this week released the First Quarter 2020: Texas Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, which reports Hopkins County with almost 13,000 total employment with average wages coming to more than $133.3 million.

Covered employment and wages— which includes all wages and salaries paid to covered employees by their employers, including bonuses, commissions and cash values or remuneration received other than cash—totaled $133,312,057, according to the report, with the average weekly wage at $791 per employee. This includes federal wage earners. In excluding federal wage earners, that average is $790.

The report indicates that, of the 12,958 employed in Hopkins County, the majority of those jobs are in Trade, Transportation and Utilities at 3,489. This area of industry includes wholesale and retail trade, transportation and warehousing, and utilities.

At about half that count are jobs in the Manufacturing, Education and Health Services, and Leisure and Hospitality industries. The fewest in any one industry is 20 but unclassified, preceded by 74 in federal employment.

Data for the report is compiled from quarterly employment and wage reports submitted by employers subject to the Texas Unemployment Compensation Act and for civilian workers covered by the program of Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees.
