The Sulphur Springs News-Telegram has added Ashley Colvin as a reporter to the news staff.

Publisher Dave Shabaz said, "I was so pleased to be able to find someone like Ashley. She's worked for us in the past and she loves people, which is such a great quality to have in a reporter."

Colvin was excited about the new opportunity.

"As soon as I walked through the doors of the Sulphur Springs News-Telegram, I felt like I was at home. I started my reporting career seven years ago with Country World, working alongside Bruce Alsobrook. He taught me everything I know today. Although I haven’t written for a newspaper since 2016, which was for The Paris News, I jumped back into it with a refreshing excitement that has me motivated to excel in my career."

Colvin continued, "I am somewhat of a career juggler, but these days, it just seems necessary. After leaving Paris, I completed my Masters in Social Work, and am currently striving to obtain my LCSW to work as a mental health therapist. In December 2020, I joined the military, and have only recently come back home from enlistment training seven weeks ago. I am now a Paralegal Specialist for the United States Army JAG Corps, working parttime in the National Guard. I travel back and forth to a military police unit in Tyler on the weekend, once a month to perform my duties in assisting attorneys and staff judge advocates in the areas of criminal, family, international, contract and fiscal law.

She added, "Before I started my exciting career path, I obtained my Bachelors of Science from Texas A&M-Commerce in Agricultural Science, Journalism, and Humanities studies. Before that, I graduated from Cooper High School, dedicating my summer hours as an English tutor to the PJC Tech center in Sulphur Springs. Now, I dedicate my spare time to Shadow Ranch in Sulphur Springs when I can, which I absolutely love to do. Pam and Marion are truly wonderful people. When I'm free, I try to go to as many concerts as possible because music is my favorite language although I now know a little bit of French, thanks to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. I would like to make my home in Monterey one day, but for now, I enjoy spending time with my family in Cooper, and yes, I love meeting new people, especially in the lovely town of Sulphur Springs. I cannot wait to make myself at home here. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity. I plan to make your city shine!"

"With an already great staff and this beautiful building that we brought downtown, who wouldn't love working in such a gorgeous location," Shabaz added..
