The city of Sulphur Springs took action to rezone several pieces of land, per decisions of the city council at their regular October meeting Tuesday.

The council’s first item was unanimously enter into a 380 agreement with My Perfect Pet. The council also unanimously rezoned the business’s location, Lot 6 of Pioneer Business Park, as an industrial reinvestment zone.

A 380 agreement allows the city to reimburse property owners for a limited amount of property taxes. Karen Neola, My Perfect Pet business owner, thanked the council for their decision.

“We’ve come a long way from the early days of me making food in my own kitchen,” Neola said. “I’ve gone all the way from southern California to now having 20,000 square feet on 6 acres in Sulphur Springs. …I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the city of Sulphur Springs.”

The council then unanimously approved the rezoning of the Luminant or Thermo mine property to heavy industrial. No citizens presented themselves for public comment.

The council unanimously approved a rezoning request for property at the corner of Spence and Fisher streets from heavy commercial to single family attached. No citizens presented themselves for public comment.

The request from property Kenny Dority encompasses 10.8 acres of land on which Dority hopes to build duplexes, Community Development Director Tory Niewiadomski stated. (See related story “Spence and Fisher may get duplexes.”)
