The city is approaching a new way to recycling solid waste, according to resolution 1174 passed by the city council during their regular July 2 meeting.

The council unanimously approved resolution 1174, which came out of an executive session, according to the meeting agenda.

According to city manager Marc Maxwell, this resolution specifies the city has terminated a contract with Texas Microbial Applications Incorporated, which previously operated an industrial-scale compost operation at the city’s wastewater treatment facility at 360 Thomas Road.

The contract is being taken over by an entity “too new yet to be named,” according to Maxwell, comprised of “a couple of local guys.”

According to the World Health Organization, composting waste can lead to several environmental benefits, including water conservation, fertilizer cost management and increased system sustainability.
