CUMBY — The Cumby ISD school board approved amendments to the district calendar to allow for more flexibility if closures are required at their regular board meeting last week.

“We are also planning for a robust virtual education when we are closed,” Superintendent Shelly Slaughter said. “This would give us some days to get all of that [online learning] working correctly.”

The new calendar has several contingency days built into both semesters to account for closures during either.

Board president Jason Hudson was nominated for the Region 8 seat on the board for Texas Association of School Boards. Thomas Darden at Cooper ISD currently holds the seat.

The board also approved a 10-cent increase in lunch prices for the 2020-2021 school year. The secondary lunch price is now $2.50, and the elementary lunch price is now $2.25.

According to the June maintenance report, all of the ceiling tiles and lighting have been replaced in the old gym, and staff is currently remolding the old gym’s lockers. Walls are being installed in the athletic building, and the football bleachers and press box are receiving a fresh coat of paint. The walls in the high school are being painted. The field house locker rooms are being walled in, and sidewalks have been poured in front and behind the administration office.
