Changes made to spring children’s production

Anyone who’s participated in live theatre can speak to its unpredictability.

So unpredictable, in fact, that the children’s show directors and board members had to make a radical change to the production schedule to include all of the more than 60 children who showed up over three nights to read for parts.

“It was a simply fantastic turnout,” said MST President Lyndie Mansfield. “We wanted to be sure to accommodate as many participants as we possibly could in order to foster an interest in the arts. We hope to see them around in future productions.”

Mansfield said several of the regular shows planned for the 2020 season will feature youth roles.

“We were expecting 30 or so to show up,” said co-director and MST’s vice president of production, David Woody. “Instead, we were overrun with 60 very talented children, so we decided to give them all an opportunity.”

That opportunity turned out to be canceling the children’s show, “The Adventures of Rose Red,” and replacing it with two youth shows. “Law and Order: Fairy Tale Unit” will feature a cast of 40, portraying some very well-known figures from several children’s stories in roles as police investigators and district attorneys. “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” includes a slightly smaller cast that will perform all 209 of the writers’ tales, including the beloved story of Snow White vs. Sleeping Beauty in a mud-wrestling death match.

Performance dates are set for March 26-28 and April 2-4.
