Cemetery Society working to repair veteran markers

Memorial Garden progress discussed

The City Cemetery Society met Tuesday June 8 at 10 a.m. in the Myra Wilson Chapel on cemetery grounds.

Those in attendance at the meeting included Jim and Amanda Jones, Steve Longino, Debbie Barrett, Mary Ann Anglin, and Helen Starrett.

The meeting was opening with the Lord’s Prayer.

Jim Jones gave the treasurer’s report. Amanda Jones gave the Memorial’s report.

The following memorials were received:

• In memory of Michael Ray Moore by Angie Moore

• In memory of Randy Hall by Mary McMillan

• In memory of Bille Grace Reynolds by James and Annada Jones, and Bille M. Evans.

Jim Jones shared a project sponsored by the American Legion, legion members plan to compile a list of VA markers that need repair. Members will then provide the labor to make repairs as a service to the cemetery and to honor those veterans.

Discussion was also held on progress for the Memorial Garden project to be constructed adjacent to the Myra Wilson Chapel.

The next meeting of the City Cemetery Society is scheduled for Tuesday August 10.

Anyone interested in the preservation and continued support of the cemetery is invited to attend.
