Commissioners Court

In their regular session Monday, the Hopkins County Commissioners Court recognized the Brinker Volunteer Fire Department for its service to the community.

Brinker VFD was founded March 24, 1994 under the leadership of then-Chief Carl Nix. The department’s first service call was in response to a grass fire on Aug. 8, 1994 on County Road 3341. Today the department has 11 members.

“It’s a great honor to be able to do this,” said Hopkins County Fire Chief Andy Endsley, who is a former chief of Brinker VFD, as he presented Chief Jamie Foster and Capt. Wade McDaniel with the framed proclamation.

“We love our community,” Chief Foster said. “We’d do anything and everything we can for them, and we appreciate y’all.”

County Judge Robert Newsom praised the Brinker VFD for their volunteerism.

“That servanthood, that’s beyond the call of duty. You’re not getting paid anything. It’s just because you want to serve the community. That’s huge. In the past, it was huge, but today, it’s even more so. Thank you very much,” he said.

Mack Pitts, a resident of Brinker, spoke about the immediate response and professionalism Brinker VFD members demonstrated during calls to his residence to assist with his mother-in-law.

“They are an excellent representation of a volunteer fire department,” Pitts said.
