Convicted felon arrested near Cumby School

Andrew Jackson Housley, 47, of Alco, Arkansas was arrested at 2:21 a.m. Wednesday on Donelton Street in Cumby on charges of possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance in a drug-free zone and felon in possession of a firearm.

Officer Zack Steward responded to a request for officer assistance. Upon Steward’s arrival, Chief Robertson advised he had probable cause to search Housley’s vehicle and reportedly located a small amount of methamphetamine and a firearm.

A criminal history check revealed Housley was a convicted felon. The arrest took place next to the Cumby school, so the drug-free zone enhancement was added to the possession charge.

During book-in, Housley reportedly complained of chest pain and was escorted to the CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital ER. He was cleared and returned to the Hopkins County jail.

Bond on each of the charges was set at $10,000, and Housley remained in custody as of press time, according to jail and arrest reports.

2 arrested on child endangerment charges

Sulphur Springs patrol and Special Crimes Unit officers arrested a 19-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, both of Sulphur Springs, on charges of endangering a child with criminal negligence.

Alyssa Renee Cockrum and Steven Charles Gilreath were involved in a Child Protective Services/SCU investigation in which a 5-month-old child and a 2-yearold child reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine.

Cockrum and Gilreath also reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine and were in care, custody and control of the children prior to and during the investigation.

Bond had not been set and the pair remained in custody as of press time, according to arrest and jail reports.
