A 45-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested during a traffic stop at 11:31 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Main Street on a charge of driving while intoxicated second offense.

The man was reportedly observed attempting to leave a local brewery by witnesses who allegedly stated he was highly intoxicated. People reportedly attempted to take his keys to prevent him from driving, but he would not allow them to do so.

A Sulphur Springs police officer was reportedly in the rear parking lot of the police station when a drive-up complainant advised him of the situation, gave a description of the vehicle and stated the man drove north on Magnolia Street.

The officer reportedly went to investigate and observed the man's vehicle crashed at the intersection of Magnolia and Main streets, with the man allegedly crawling in the grass near his vehicle. He reportedly was uncooperative and refused to identify himself.

The officer reportedly observed the man was having trouble standing and had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The man's pants were reportedly unzipped, and it appeared as if he had urinated on himself.

He allegedly refused to provide a breath sample and a search warrant was issued to obtain a blood sample.

Bond was set at $2,000, and the man remained in jail as of press time Monday, according to reports.
