Commerce man arrested on firearm charge

Shawn Lee Marker, 48, of Commerce was arrested during a traffic stop at 8:35 p.m. Thursday on FM 2653 at Interstate 30 on a charge of unauthorized possession of a firearm by a felon and warrants for improperly displaying registration insignia, no driver’s license when unlicensed and displaying expired license plates.

Marker was reportedly stopped for failing to stop at a stop sign. Communications reportedly advised he had three active warrants.

After Marker was secured, deputies reportedly discovered a rifle under the backseat of the vehicle. Marker allegedly said he was unaware of the rifle being in the vehicle and that he is a convicted felon.

Bond was set at $10,000, and Marker remained in custody as of press time Friday, according to arrest and jail reports.

Animal complaints

• Two dogs showed up at a property on County Road 2324 in Como at 8:38 a.m. Thursday;

• Report of a dog allegedly stolen in Rains County and given away in Hopkins County at 10:11 a.m. Thursday;

• A woman reported her neighbor’s dogs were fighting with the woman’s dogs on Gaskins Street in Como at 12:08 p.m. Thursday;

• Report of a horse missing since Wednesday on FM 1536 at 12:15 p.m. Thursday;

• Report of a dog hit by a vehicle on State Highway 19 north at 2:58 p.m. Thursday;

• Three cows on the eastbound Interstate 30 service road at mile marker 116 in Brashear at 4:07 p.m. Thursday;

• Three cows on County Road 2330 at State Highway 11 east in Como at 4:10 p.m. Thursday; and

• Horses on FM 3505 at FM 71 west at 10:48 p.m. Thursday.
