Investigation pending following I-30 traffic stop

A 22-year-old Garland man was arrested at 10:49 a.m. Tuesday during a DPS traffic stop on Interstate 30 east at mile marker 121 on a charge of no driver’s license.

Trooper Gillentine was reportedly on patrol at the location when he was passed by a silver Chevrolet Tahoe with registration insignia and a rear Texas license plate, but no front license plate. The man, who was the driver, reportedly gave the trooper a Mexican driver’s license and was advised he would receive a warning for the missing front license plate.

Gillentine reportedly noticed two young women, estimated to be in their late teens to early 20s, sitting in the back seat. Gillentine stated it appeared odd, as no one was sitting in the front passenger seat. He reportedly asked the two women for ID, but neither one had any.

The trooper reportedly asked the driver how long he had been living in Texas. The man reportedly said he had been living in Texas for five years. He reportedly knew only the first names of the two female passengers, even though they were traveling together. The man was taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing.

No bond was set, and the driver remained in jail as of press time Wednesday, according to arrest and jail reports.
