2 arrested in traffic stop

A 26-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, both of Sulphur Springs, were arrested during a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Industrial Drive east. Arrest reports read the man was the driver of a blue Oldsmobile, and the vehicle was stopped due to the female passenger not wearing a safety belt.

During contact, both occupants reportedly appeared to be extremely nervous. A records check revealed the driver had multiple suspensions on his driver’s license.

The man was arrested on a charge of driving while license invalid. The woman was arrested on a charge of no seat belt-passenger. Both were released from jail Friday, jail and arrest reports read.

Woman charged with possession, evading arrest

Cathy Sue Pichardo, 48, of Sulphur Springs, was arrested in the 100 block of Jefferson Street at 9:33 p.m. Thursday on charges of possession of 1-4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance and evading arrest after she allegedly attempted to flee from SSPD officers attempting to conduct a traffic stop.

Officers attempted to stop Pichardo for allegedly failing to signal a turn, but she reportedly began to flee when the patrol unit’s overhead lights were activated. HCSO Investigator Corley Weatherford was able to deploy spike strips at the arrest location and stop the vehicle.

Officers reportedly conducted a search of the vehicle and located a clear plastic baggie containing suspected marijuana, as well as more than one clear plastic baggie containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. Bond was set at $15,000 on each charge, and Pichardo remained in jail as of press time, arrest reports read.

Man arrested on public intoxication following a disturbance

A 31-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested on a charge of public intoxication in the 1300 block of South League Street.

SSPD officers were dispatched to another location in the 600 block of South League Street in reference to an unknown subject on the premises of another. They were advised that, while en route, the subject ran away. Officers reportedly searched the area and located the man, who reportedly had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person, had glassy eyes and was unsteady on his feet. Officers believed he was a danger to himself and others.

The man reportedly told officers he had been drinking shots of liquor. He further stated he had an argument with his wife and left the residence to walk around. He reportedly admitted to being on other people’s property.

Officers had reportedly been dispatched to a disturbance at the man’s residence, but he left before they arrived. He was released Friday, arrest and jail reports read.

Jail transfers, other activity

Jermaine Donell Hogan, 31, of Dallas was released on bond from jail Wednesday. He was arrested Tuesday on a charge of assault on a member of family or household that impeded breathing or circulation. Bond was set at $100,000, according to jail reports.

Jamaine Markuis Crowell, 25, of Nashville was released on $35,000 bond Wednesday. He was arrested Tuesday on warrants for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and theft of property less than $2,500 with two or more previous convictions, jail reports read.

Ashley Renea Young, 23, of Sulphur Springs was released on $45,000 bond with 10 years probation Wednesday. She was arrested July 17 on a charge of possession of 4-200 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, jail reports read. A 38-year-old Commerce woman turned herself in at the Hopkins County jail Thursday on a warrant for assault causing bodily injury. Bond was set at $5,000, and she was released Friday, arrest and jail reports read.

A 30-year-old Farmers Branch woman was arrested at the Dallas County jail and transported to the Hopkins County jail on a probation violation on a charge of possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance. Bond was denied, jail reports read.

Animal complaints

• Report of a motor vehicle accident involving a deer on State Highway 11 east at County Road 2408 at 6:39 a.m. Wednesday;

• Cows on the westbound Interstate 30 service road at 8:06 a.m. Wednesday;

• Red roan horse on FM 71 at FM 3236 near east Caney Creek at 5:27 p.m. Wednesday;

• Cows on the westbound Interstate 30 service road near the overpass at FM 3389 at 5:36 p.m. Wednesday;

• Black cow on FM 3134 at County Road 4737 in Peerless at 11:41 p.m. Wednesday;

• Donkeys on FM 2560 at Private Road 3216 at 1:47 a.m. Thursday;

• Several cows on FM 69 south near Black Oak Baptist Church in Como at 7:24 a.m. Thursday. A second report was received at 8:43 a.m. Deputies were unable to locate; and

• Report of animal cruelty in County Road 1199 near the cemetery in Brashear at 1:35 p.m. Thursday. A caller reported horses did not have shade.
