Friday, March 3

„ Deputies transported Robert Earl Snowden from Hutchins State Jail to Hopkins County jail, where he was held on three forgery of a financial instrument charges. The 37-year-old Point man’s bond was recommended to be set at $10,000 per charge.

„ Theft of a laundry hamper and more than $2,000 worth of electronics accessories was reported at Walmart

„ Hopkins County firefighters and deputies responded from 4:13 to 5:06 p.m. to a report of a vehicle crash on State Highway 11 east in Como.

Saturday, March 4

„ Sulphur Springs Police Officer stopped a Chevrolet pickup at 7:09 p.m. on Mockingbird Lane. A records check showed Barbara Lynn Mitchell’s driver’s license to be expired. The 48-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was arrested at 7:34 p.m. on a Class C misdemeanor expired driver’s license charge.

„ A SSPD officer responded at 5:52 p.m. at a South Hillcrest Drive business, where a man was alleged to be consuming alcohol by dumpsters. The officder spotted Samuel Gregory Swindell on the property. A records check showed the 65-year-old Sulphur Springs man had previously been issued a warning not to return. Swindell was arrested on a Class B misdemeanor criminal trespass charge.

„ Hopkins County and Cumby firefighters responded from 12:28 to 12:35 p.m. on County Road 111 to a grass fire.

„ Dike and Hopkins County firefighters responded from 11:09 to 11:23 p.m. to what was reported as a structure fire on State Highway 19 north near County Road 4574 in Birthright, but turned out to be a controlled burn.

„ Sheriff’s officers responded to a complaint of an unruly juvenile on FM 71 east at 8:10 p.m.

Sunday, March 5

„ A SSPD Officer responded at 2:18 p.m. to a report of a disturbance on Duckworth Street. The officer contacted Sheila Jo Knutson. While talking to the 57-year-old Sulphur Springs woman, police smelled an alcoholic beverage odor emitting from Knutson and noted she also spoke with slurred speech and had bloodshot eyes, the officer alleged in arrest reports. Knutson was taken to jail for public intoxication. Upon arrival, however, she refused to answer questions from jail staff and became combative; Knutson was placed into a v-cell, according to arrest reports.

„ A police officer at 12:44 a.m. checked on a suspicious vehicle, one in the parking lot of a closed Gilmer Street business. When contacted, James Audre Akin agreed to let the officer search the car. The officer found in the car a vape cartridge with a substance the 55-year-old Frankston, Texas man later admitted was THC, according to police reports.

„ Deputies responded to a report of a residential burglary on County Road 2310 at 4:24 a.m. Sunday; no offense report was made, just notation of the incident in call cards.

„ Deputies P. Ryan and Frank Tiemann transported Jacinto Tapia Rivera from Valle Verde County Jail to Hopkins County jail, where the 51-year-old Sulphur Springs man was booked in at 10:30 p.m. on a possession of 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance warrant.

„ Hopkins County and Como firefighters responded from 12:18 to 12:34 p.m. to a grass fire on State Highway 11 east.

„ HCSO Deputies Isaac Foley, Ryan Reed and Drew Fisher, and Sgt. Tanner Steward stopped Robert Nattonni Nez at 9:29 p.m. for a light violation on the Buick he was driving on State Highway 19 north. A record check showed two outstanding warrants for his arrest. The 41-year-old Cooper man was booked into jail at 10:30 p.m. for not paying a failure to maintain financial responsibility and a muffler violation fines. Fees owed on the Class C misdemeanor charges totaled $589, according to arrest reports.

„ HCSO Deputies Frank Tiemann and Philip Ryan transported Ruben Anzaldua from Bexar County jail to Hopkins County jail, where the 57-year-old was booked in at 10:30 p.m. on warrants for failure to comply with sex offender duty to register for life and theft of property valued at less than $2,000 with two or more prior convictions. Bond was recommended to be set at $100,000 on the third-degree felony failure to register charge and a $2,000 cash only bond on the theft charge, according to arrest reports.

„ A scam was reported to deputies at 5:24 p.m. on Houston Street.

„ HCSO dispatchers answered 221 non-emergency phone calls and 46 emergency calls. Deputies responded to 66 calls for service, provided two funeral escorts, and made 14 traffic stops. Four people were booked into and three were released from the county jail, which held 190 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

„ Suspicious activity was reported on FM 2560 at 7:36 a.m. Sunday.

Monday, March 6

„ After being told by multiple people that they had no knowledge of Michael Dewayne Thompson Jr., officers spotted the 36-year-old Sulphur Springs man entering a neighboring residence. After obtaining permission, police located the man in the Lamar Street home and took him into custody at 4:48 p.m. He was jailed for bond forfeiture on a possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana in a drug-free zone. His new bond was recommended to be set as a $6,000 cash or surety only.

„ Hopkins County deputies stopped 28-year-old Ian Blaine McCulloch of Richardson at 9:38 a.m. for following too close behind another motorist on the service road, then failed to stop at the stop sign on Frisco Street. Upon contact, deputies noted McCulloch to have dialated pupils, had expired registration. He claimed he was following so close behind the other vehicle because he was following the 'bugs.' He exhibited signs of narcotic use, deputies noted, and was arrested for reckless driving.

„ Deputies stopped Frank Levell Harris Jr. at 5:31 p.m. on Interstate 30 west at mile marker 135 for an obstructed license plate. The sheriff 's officers observed what they believed to be signs of deception and obtained permission to search the car. The 47-yearold Dallas man was arrested for felon in possession of a firearm, after deputies found a handgun, a plastic jar with marijuana and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia in his possession, according to arrest reports.

„ Theft of more than $200 worth of groceries was reported at Walmart.

„ Hopkins County firefighters, deputies and troopers responded from 1:22 p.m. to 2:11 p.m. to a crash on State Highway 154 south.

„ County dispatchers answered 201 nonemergency phone calls and 34 emergency calls during the 24hour period ending at 5:30 a.m. Monday. Deputies responded to 74 calls for service, conducted one inmate transport, made 38 traffic stops and filed one controlled substance offense report. Six people were booked into and two were released from the county jail, which held 193 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Monday.

„ County dispatchers answered 245 nonemergency phone calls and 41 calls.
